Follow-up Comment #12, bug #36133 (project octave):

Matlab's behavior has changed since R2014b. Here's examples from R2018a:


>> sprintf ('%30.0f', 1e25)
ans =
    '    10000000000000000905969664'



>> num2str(2^512)
ans =
    '1.34078079299426e+154'
>> sprintf ('%.0f', 2^512)
ans =

>> for i = 1:25; x = 10^i; disp (num2str (x)); end
