Follow-up Comment #14, bug #62847 (project octave):

Hmmm, I thought I typed in two comments but they don't show up.

Another try:

so there seems to be some stripping / substitution going on (of directory
'Total'). We work in a domain so perhaps that's where all the wizardry comes
from.

Anyway, an 8.0.0 build with the cset mentioned in comment #8 backed out seems
to work fine w.r.t. this bug report.

I don't know how we should proceed further. I'll buy it blindly if it is
suggested that the situation at my work side is "special" (for other reasons
as well, don't get me started ;-) ).
For the time being my workaround is Good Enough for me. 
Or I can leave the pertinent cset backed out for some time (maybe easiest for
me).
