I've noted this some years ago as well and reported it, but maybe in passing
in another bug report about the GUI. I can't find it ATM but didn't search
hard.
What you can do to mitigate this somewhat is click Edit|Preferences, General
tab, click "Custom style" and fiddle with the settings next to it (3D style &
color settings).
Or maybe try some other theme (in the same Preferences tab).
