In my latest system update, grep was upgraded to version 3.8 and building
Octave now issues hundreds of these new warnings:

egrep: warning: egrep is obsolescent; using grep -E


For my typical build settings, there were 822 of them. I had to redirect
stderr to a file because it was flooding the output.

Evidently this is now default behavior with grep as described here:
