Follow-up Comment #20, bug #55765 (project octave):

following on comment #15, i pushed a change to replace the two locations with
automatic broadcasting with bsxfun similar to that done with center.m in bug
#51249. won't worry about any workarounds to preserve sparseness for now, but
this prevents the nonconformance errors. added bists to capture sparse
inputs.
