[Octave-bug-tracker] [bug #61370] gcc's thread sanitizer reports several race conditions

Follow-up Comment #14, bug #61370 (project octave):

I was able to update the patch against both stable (Octave 8) and default
(Octave 9). They build and pass "make check". Updated patches attached.

Please review the control flow logic.

Maintainers: What are your thoughts on including these fixes for Octave 8?
