Follow-up Comment #12, bug #63988 (project octave):

@Markus: Unfortunately, not everything is clear and logical even in a
profession like software engineering.  I sit in Silicon Valley and the
convention is to call the piece of code under discussion a "BIST test". 
 Maybe just treat it like an irregular verb and one simply has to memorize
what it means.
