Follow-up Comment #6:

I don't really like the change. But I can't think of how else to do it that
wouldn't require a major rewrite of how that class is used in the load_path.
So, I pushed it to the default branch here:
https://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/792733e11f87

It will be part of Octave 9 when it will be released probably some time early
next year.

Marking as ready for test.

I'll try to remember posting a link to the build artifact once the CI is
done.
