[Octave-bug-tracker] [bug #64735] `pkg load io` crashes Octave GUI with no error

Follow-up Comment #16, bug #64735 (project octave):

I tried 

* setting java.opts to `-Xss10m` but it still crashes. It uses the options,
because a typo generated a warning in the command window.

* setting `HAVE_JAVA = false;` which allows io to load successfully. Then,
running my boss's script crashes Octave with no error. He's parsing an excel
file. It crashes on `xlsread()`.
