Follow-up Comment #17, bug#64977 (group octave):

Compiling the bytecode evaluator is enabled by default on the new feature
branch (just like it was a couple of weeks ago on the default branch). To
*disable* building it, you'd need to configure with
`--disable-bytecode-evaluator`.
