I have just downloaded, compiled and installed the official Octave 8.4.0
tar-ball onto my Ubuntu (20.04.6) machine.

Compiling, installing and "make check" passed fine without any failing unit
tests. But when I run "__run_test_suite__" from within the Octave GUI, with
all startup.m files disabled, I see a "regression" from the unit test "bug
40117". I will attach the relevant part of fntest.log.

I am happy if anyone suggests further tests to do on my machine, to narrow
down the problem (if there is any at all).
