Follow-up Comment #1:

same behavior on a recent dev build on ubuntu. 

stepping through the called functions, it steps down into flipud, then into
flip.  it returns to flipud fine, but errors when stepping past the flipud
endfunction line to return back to the calling function.

just to confirm your initial report, you said you DO also see this in 6.4.0?
or you didn't and it was a regression?
