Follow-up Comment #47, bug #65431 (group octave):

And so far octave has also permitted submitting fvcd formed data to cdata as
well, but just has apparently been mangling patch data with it. (It seems most
shapes of cdata to fvcd get rejected by class constraints, but there seems to
have been no check on any counts matching, as this and another recent but
report point out)

My suggestion would be we get this to a crash and data safe state for 9.1,
even if that restricts things to "published compatibility, and then debate on
whether to expand inputs to allow undocumented compatibility for later?
