Follow-up Comment #1:

@Adam, saw this bug report has been sitting for a while.  Can you comment on
when and where exactly you expect the command history to be saved, and how
it's not doing so? Currently, in my uses of Octave 8 and 9 the Octave command
history is saved as long as the program exits normally. when you say 'saving
the workspace' are you referring to issuing the 'save' command, and that you
expect the command history to be a part of the information in that file?
