Follow-up Comment #4:

quick patch that adds BISTs to check the bug #57800 behavior and add currently
failing test for this report. also adds an input validation check so
attempting to both get and set the view produces a meaningful error message. 
pushed to default as:

https://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/c224e1a810d6

will look at modifications that try to satisfy both expected behaviors.
