Follow-up Comment #22:

now i just saw bug #64362, which pointed out svg hangs/crashes with system
opengl driver. we recently opted to close that as a 'won't fix'. this appears
to be the same issue.  also closing report as wont fix.  as that one is direct
to the problem any solutions should probably get posted over there.
