Thanks for the comments. I think that you have some very valid points.

I have added further validation of inputs and attempted to add a self test to
the function. This is not something that I have a lot of experience with.

For the empty inputs, I have used the demo in the Matlab help (the _Try This
Example_ button) to see the size of the output and the output itself using
various empty arrays as inputs. From what I can see, I get the same dimensions
as the Matlab function.
