Yes, it's been discussed.  <g>  The last on the topic was that b4 this could 
happen, PAN needed to switch to a different database format.  If implimented 
correctly, with this functionality in mind, handling multiple servers in a 
single list would be (comparitively) easily done, one the database format is 
correct.  The talk was of switching to an SQL database type, using sqlite, 
but compatable with MySQL and the like, so Pan's db could be mined by other 
user apps and utilities.  There was a bit of talk of specifics.

Another app available on Linux that can handle this is BNR2 (Binary News 
Reaper).  BNR1 was a reader, but BNR2 is primarily designed for binary 
sucking, and while I am told you CAN generate a text reply with it, the 
process is rather convoluted, and most users only use it for mass binary 
downloads.  It's coded in Borland Delphi/Kylix, and runs on both MSWormOS and 
Linux.  I don't use it, but I know folks that do and swear by it (on 
MSWormOS, anyway).  Unfortunately, it seems the Linux port is several 
versions behind and is apparently without a current maintainer.  Source is 
available, in Kylix, of course, so most would simply use the binaries, old 
tho they may be.  The site has recently changed hosts, and I am not sure 
whether google and the like will have the new URLs or not, yet.  Anyone 
interested that can't find it, reply, and I'll ask around amongst those that 
use it here on Cox and get a current URL.
