First of all, I would need to know what version of GnuPG you are using 
to give you precise instructions, and if you would like to contact me 
off list, I would be more than happy to explain how to set up GnuPG and 
generate your first key pair, etc.  However, I am a firm believer in 
these matters being handled by a specialist package outside of Pan, but 
the ease of being able to do this depends on which desktop you are 
running.  

The VERY BEST gui front end to GnuPG with clipboard 
encryption/decryption/verification facilities in Linux is KGPG, but 
this runs only with the KDE3 desktop;  you can get it (and its panel 
applet "kicker") from http://devel-home.kde.org/~kgpg/index.html but 
there are other guis for GnuPG, most of them out of date and only 
dealing with (some aspects) of key management.  If you are not using 
KDE3, you might like to look up GPA from http://www.gnupg.org

As you are so new to GnuPG, can I suggest you contact the PGP-Basics 
list?  Its mainly Windows oriented, but there are many users of GnuPG 
amongst its membership...and you won't get a RTFM reply to your 
problem!  It can be contacted at
