Currently no one is flying a fixed wing UAV using an IMU.  Some use gyros to assist stabilization, but no one has either written good enough filter code, or purchased a INS IMU to do flights on a airplane using an IMU

Well, for the beginning phases of our project, price is not a major concern.
As far as I know paparazzi team has also developed their own IMU board,
Do they have any plan to replace the IMU board with IR sensors completely?
Does the paparazzi AP source code support the IMU board?

I have some experience with the 3DM-G model. The gyro addition makes the unit
usable in a dynamic environment such as an aircraft. The product is fairly
good but is very expensive.
