I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS.

The output of the command yields:
$ perl -e "print 1024 * qx{ awk '/^((Swap)?Cached|MemFree|Buffers):/{ sum += 
\\\$2 } END { print sum }' /proc/meminfo }"
528100048896

I will see if I can write a dummy Python script to reproduce my results as 
you've suggested.
