You don't understand: people have a recurrent problem with this
inconvenient suggestion, and maintain.texi fails to provide the
reasons that would justify this suggestion. As a result it's pretty
natural for people not to take it into account.

I suggest adding a summary of this thread's answers: importance of
each publication date, ambiguity of ranges, etc.
