There is always someone causing trouble.

Good point. Thanks for the comment.
At this point I don't think so. Usually attacks continue over busy
parts of the day because they want to be disruptive. The reported
trouble is happening only in the very early hours of the morning when
usage is very low. The system logs aren't recording anything
interesting. The system appears quite idle through that time.
