also make sure that you use sthg like
        INPUT_MAIL_FILTER(`spamass', `S=local:/var/run/spamass-milter.sock, F=, 
T=C:15m;S:2m;R:2m;E:5m')dnl
in your sendmail.mc file (watch the T= option!!!).

i use the cvs version from 20040604. but i still got timeouts...
so i had a look into the bat book. the default timeouts are quite
small (S:10s;R:10s) and spamassassin here takes sometimes a minute
or so....
