The last time I looked when I was getting the problem, I saw that
[null] was being substituted for the PLAY_COMMAND variable and when I
manually editted the synth command line and put 'aplay' in there, all
worked fine. For whatever reason, it was not plugging aplay in
there. It works properly with espeak-generic but not swift-generic.
I'll dig into this a bit more tonight to see if I can find anything
else.
