Hi Chriss,
Thx for looking into this but I can tell you that it's not a problem of
softmixing.
I have now loaded three modules:
pico, espeak, ibmtts.
First two are working ok.
BTW.: You can only prevent softmixing in alsa if you do fololwing:
1. you open the hw device directly hw0,0 for first device on first
soundcard
2. you use /dev/dsp (oss emulation) of alsa.
3. You use pulseaudio which does 1.
On my machine I can play several audiofiles and get speech output from
speechd with pico and espeak.
More ideas?
