This happens to me as well, but I thought it was a Firefox issue (haven't tried other window managers.) The issue does not happen on Chrome for me either.
I'm running Debian 11, and installed StumpWM 1.0.0 using apt.
I'm happy to provide other info should it help diagnose the issue.
