Evaluating that /after/ entering a TeX-mode buffer seems to have
no effect at all.

Evaluating it /before/ entering a TeX-mode buffer produces the
following error message:

   File mode specification error: (wrong-type-argument listp "varphi")

I have attached the debug-on-error message.
