[AUCTeX] Master file

Hello,

I am using Auctex 11.84 under Emacs 22.1.1.

In previous versions of Auctex, I was using 11.14 until very recently, when
I opened a ".tex" file where the master file variable wasn't set up auctex
would prompt me for a master file, suggesting the right one most of the
time.  It still does if it is a new file, but if it is an existing file,
created by a statistical package for example, it doesn't prompt me any more
for the master file when I open the file and I have to set it up manually.
What do I have to do to revert to the old behaviour?
