Ok, so time to dust off the Windows machine as well ;-)

Otherwise, avrdude is the method of choice for Unix-like operating
systems.  I don't have an idea about how well the Ubuntu toolkit is
maintained here.  Version 5.5 is the most recent release of avrdude.

Thanks, I'll have to check what the version on Ubuntu is.

By the way, how well is jtag supported on Linux? I don't
have any jtag hardware yet, but if the Olimex dongles work
with Linux tools, they look like the way to go.
