It doesn't fail here.  That's just a warning.  Maybe the installation
of your TeX system is broken.  I'd check that with a minimal example
file and a regular LaTeX run, not preview-latex.

No, my teTeX 3.0 based system works correctly. Otherwise it could have failed during making of AUCTeX 11.81. Chances are that my TeX system is partly broken because I am kind of a beta tester of what Gerben Wierda releases, and I don't have enough test cases ... but it seems to work right.

At least I think \language=0 is not appropriate. A more contents sensible approach looks more sensible.

Here is the error.

Since you omitted a description of what you were doing to produce the
error, I had to experiment in order to reproduce it.  The only way I
could see it was to run `preview-region' on a part of the preamble
(which the "!offset(-17)" message indicates).

How do you expect a part of the preamble to be previewed?


The region I marked up looked to be valid LaTeX code, so I assumed preview-latex could change it into a graphic insert ...
