I'm glad we have a patch. Thanks for finding and reporting the bug.

I defer to Arnold on this one, but I think this is a fairly serious bug
that justifies a 4.2.1 release pretty soon.

On an unrelated note -- I noticed that your mdlint script parses XML. Why don't
you use the gawk-xml extension to do this? In case it matters, gawk-xml is in
the new Fedora 27 distribution released today.
