Dear all
I wish to report a possible bug with "strip" (binutils 2.11.2). My system:
gcc 2.95.2
SunOS ife.ee.ethz.ch 5.7 Generic_106541-16 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-60
Configuring and compiling work very fine, but when I want to use my
newly created "strip", I encounter the following:
BFD: stYAa4KM: warning: allocated section `.interp' not in segment
When I try to run the stripped program it crashes very fast:
Cannot find ELF
Killed
When I strip the same program with Sun's strip (/usr/ccs/bin/strip)
no errors occur. An example is "pilot" from pine 4.40.
name length stripped by
-------------------------------------------
pilot 1164988 ---
pilot.gnu 330724 GNU strip
pilot.sun 297004 Sun strip
-------------------------------------------
So /usr/ccs/bin/strip strips better and yields an usable
binary. Any ideas when the bugs are? If you need more information
form my side don't hesitatae to contact me.
Cheers & thanks
Beat
PS: The is the first time ever I report a GNU error. In other words I am
use GNU stuff a lot and I am extremly satisfied with them. I wish to thank
everybody who contributes to GNU projects.
