Either BSD tar is incredible fast on tarball listing, or or took
extraorbitarily long to issue an error message...

Could you please run bsdtar manually with the options used by TCP and
verify that it's all working correctly and as expected?

For the rest of the tests, we see that GNU tar ist quite fast all the
time, though there seems to be a shortcoming for the compare
operation.
