Thanks that makes sense.

It is uncommon to test against the macro's name, but we can
do it by using the compare procedure against the renamed 'ef

So the purpose of the compare procedure is to compare renamed identifiers?

Here is the modified code.

(define-syntax ef
 (er-macro-transformer  ...

I get an "unbound variable: er-macro-transformer" error when I include this line.  This is one of the things that initially stumped me after reading  should I be including this line (it works without it)?  If so, how do I do it?
