No particularly good reason.  At one point I was adding a bunch of new
features and couldn't call them bug fixes so I only added them to
feature on general principle.  Unfortunately it has probably diverged so
far that back-porting patches would be a pain.

I don't think that any functionality has been added that is actually
incompatible with stable, so just dropping the feature script into
stable's contrib with appropriate notes in NEWS probably wouldn't hurt.

I had thought we might have discussed this once before, but I couldn't
turn anything up with some quick googling.
