Thanks for this - I found
http://www.musiconmypc.co.uk/art_keyboard_connection.php
which gives very basic info on connecting up - including a picture of
the port on the Creative labs soundblaster cards that can be used for
midi in/out. Remarkable that on the Creative site listing these products
it is not even mentioned that midi can be done via this port. Elsewhere,
I saw someone complaining at the price Creative charge(d) for a cable to
connect. As I don't have one of these game ports, it is irrelevant. And
the cheapest direct midi-usb connecter is not a lot less than the
Audiophile card that Nils suggested. I have found a standalone usb box
which has midi and an audio in which will take normal mics, a  Tascam
US122 but this is quite expensive.
