I noticed that svn was not installed on my system so I installed it,
however make denemo still barfed the same way.
Then I tried running the command manually:
cd /home/rshann/gub/downloads/portaudio 
  svn co  -r 1428
http://www.portaudio.com/repos/portaudio/trunk/ 
/home/rshann/gub/downloads/portaudio/trunk//1428

where I deleted some (usually harmless) double slashes in the paths.

Then make denemo successfully continued.
More news if it actually finishes!
