O.K. - did a bit of looking at the kvm problem. As far as I remember, we
switched over to using kvm and a fix for not being able to get the arguments
properly, not because we couldnt get the environment. The only kvm call which
is failing on 5.2 without the /proc filesystem being mounted is the one which
get the environment and that still available via the normal static variable.
Therefore an easy fix would be to leave the system using kvm, but to just
change it to not use kvm for the environment. A better fix would be to make
configure test to see which works, and use the apprropiuate one. But as we know
its only being used on FreeBSD for now there seems no harm in just fixing it
like that for the time ebing. Will do some patches when I get a spare moment.
