It's not a typo: you _did_ mean visual to logical, not the other way
around, yes?

This might be interesting, although IMHO not at first (I think the
visual to logical transformation is required for less important
features, so I currently plan to leave it for later).

However, XEmacs people tend to get emotional about assigning
copyright to their code to the FSF; if Steve won't agree, we cannot
use his code in Emacs.  So perhaps it would be better if you could
describe what it does in plain English; that way, someone else could
implement the same algorithm (if we decide it is useful) without
bumping into the copyright nuisance.
