I doesn't help for the following case, but it's surely another
problem:
(run-with-timer 1 nil (lambda ()
                        (url-retrieve "http://block.com"; 'ignore)))

if « block.com » doesn't answer.

This case is happening in Gnus, for example, with async demon.
