Maybe this can be done, but AFAICT this hasn't been done yet.  I'm not
sure if there is such a thing as "the system mail program" under unix.
It used to be that `sendmail' did just that (tho it only took care of
sending the mail), but it can't be relied upon nowadays thanks to the
braindead measures taken against spam.
