I don't understand. If my .emacs is

'(whitespace-check-indent-whitespace nil))
and I launch Emacs without arguments, activate `whitespace-global-mode',
and open some file, sequences of eight spaces at bol do not get
highlighted. Maybe someone else can check this.

I changed `whitespace-indent-regexp' in November 2006 from
(concat "^\\(\t*\\) " " ")
to
"^\t*\\( \\)+"
so maybe that's a reason.
