Good job!  I have the same problem of completion in the minibuffer
under CVS Emacs, patch-292 planner.  Right now I'm coping with the
problem by resetting the minibuffer-prompt-properties,

(setq minibuffer-prompt-properties '(face minibuffer-prompt))

i.e. the default (read-only t) are removed.
