Yes, it is quite primitive, and those things are part of its
non-functionality; it needs some sort of re-parenting/updating
function. That should be quite simple to do: I have one for the old
emacs-wiki backlinking, but I can't find it at the moment.

What do you mean by "generate a list on the fly"?
