Well, I have to admit I still don't know whether you've succeeded with
help (yelp) GNOME system or not... ;o)

If you've got problems with proper setting the values for prefix, try:

        ./configure --prefix=/usr

IMHO this should help to place all gcmd help stuff
into /usr/share/gnome/help
