a few weeks ago, i wrote one such test; it didn't make it into
package-framework/tla yet, however.

it is now integrated into the package framework in these branches:

address@hidden/package-framework--patch-test--1.0 and
address@hidden/tla--patch-test--1.2

Agreed. Another wishlist item: have the ../configure script exit with
a non-0 exit status if one of the tests failed; also, execute all
tests, no matter if a previous test failed first. that way, the user
can see all the problems that he needs to fix. i guess it's rather
frustrating to first see the gnu-diff error, then installing the diff
port, then seeing the gnu-patch error, etc.
