It should do it, at least on Windows. The correct variant according to
the locale will be printed. So if you only read texts in your own
language, you won't notice the effect of unification.
The problems only occur if you process text written in several
languages.
Please keep in mind that it's still not clear if Han unification poses a
problem in reality. Most of its criticism comes from the fact that the
Unicode books used mainland Chinese fonts for the Han characters, and
many Japanese thought that the glyph layout was normative (of course, it
isn't).
