Yeah, Robert Collins immediately enacted my request. Sure, he is
upstream, but Andrew's response is still pretty pathetic. Debian's
role has always been to make changes and contribute them to
upstream. Andrew is thus simply being lazy and purposely
counter-productive.

when a .swp already exists and you choose to ignore it, a .swo will
be used for the current session.
