OK, thanks.  Now configure is complaining about missing Makefile.in
files in the docs directory.

I hacked that out of configure just to see how much further I'd get. 
The next problem is this:

make[1]: *** No rule to make target
`javax/security/auth/spi/LoginModule.java', needed by
`classes/javax/security/auth/spi/LoginModule.class'.  Stop.
